Pocket is gone: the best read-it-later apps in 2026

Short answer

Pocket is gone: Mozilla shut it down on July 8, 2025 and permanently deleted saved data after October 8, 2025. For a reading app, pick Instapaper, Readwise Reader or Matter; if you save from Instagram, TikTok and YouTube as well as the web, pick SavedIt.

How to pick a Pocket replacement

Four questions, in this order.

  1. Did you export from Pocket in time?

If you downloaded your Pocket file before October 8, 2025, keep it: Readwise Reader says it takes that file. If you didn't, the saves are gone, so start from your browser bookmarks instead.

  2. Do you mostly read long articles?

Then you want a reading app. Instapaper is the closest to old Pocket and runs on web, iPhone and Android. Readwise Reader is for people who highlight everything. Matter is for reading and listening on Apple devices.

  3. Is it a handful of pages for this week?

Tap Share, then Add to Reading List.

Your browser already does that. Safari's Reading List can keep every article for offline reading, and Chrome adds a page from the tab's right-click menu.

  4. Do you save more than articles?

If the thing you meant to read next week is a Reel, a TikTok or a YouTube video as often as an essay, a reading app won't hold it. That's what SavedIt is for.

Read it in SavedIt, next to everything else you saved

The article you meant to read sits in the same library as the Reel and the TikTok you saved that week, and Reader turns the article into clean text.

  1. Save the article from your browser

    Tap Share, then SavedIt.

In Safari or Chrome on your phone, tap Share, then SavedIt. You stay on the page, and you can add a note about why you want it.

The iPhone share sheet from a web page, with SavedIt in the row of apps and Add to Reading List below
SavedIt sits in the same share sheet as Add to Reading List.
  2. Open it in Reader

Tap Open the save, then Read.

Tap Read, next to the blue open button. Reader shows a clean reading copy of the article or PDF, and you can highlight the lines worth keeping. It's free on every account.

  3. Bring your browser bookmarks with you

Tap +, then Import saves, then Chrome or Safari, then Choose export file.

Tap your browser under From and SavedIt shows how to export. Choose the file, check the plan, then tap Import. Raindrop and Readwise exports come in the same way.

SavedIt import finished screen saying All 312 saves are in, with Open your library and View report
Done: every bookmark in your library, with Undo kept in History for 24 hours.
  4. Find it by what it was about

Search a word from the title, your note or a highlight. Remember only the idea? One tap searches by meaning, so "that essay about sleep and memory" still finds it.
